I try to reduce the Overlap as much I can. (Can't find Overlap in help )
And at the end of your link/article stay the same I would write.
  • Create one object with different start/finish points and stitch direction, one objects with a different number of segments.
  • Reduce the number of overlaps to 1 per object where possible.
  • If the overlap is present, it should be at least 1–2 rows wide.
  • In case the start and finish points should be located in particular
places, you can try to manually split a complex shape into segments with
    one stitch direction.
But I wouldn't say that or this is a better editor - I tested some and in all editors I tested I could change the underlay - the direction of stitching - start and end point - ... sometimes easy sometimes a bit tricky but I don't find an editor who can't do that. Only if it calls himself editor and cant really edit anything in a design.
And in Hatch I can do a lot.
I love Linux - Debian and work with Inkscape, Gimp ... started embroidering with InkStitch now at Hatch \o/ [would love Hatch much more when it work under Linux ;-)][main language: german and a bit pidgin denglish]

I must say thanks ;-) found some hints in your link - but I am a poor home user with pro thinking. And Hatch is/was the only soft where I can use my own bobbin color lists (ok I came from InkStitch and only updated to Hatch, because the stitching out was ugly - not the design.)
